LETTER NO.8
Bismillah hir Rahman nir Raheem (In
the name of ALLAH, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful).
May the Peace and Blessings of
ALLAH be upon the Imaam of all Prophets, Imaam of the Ummah, Imaam of
Mujahideen, our Holy Prophet-Muhammad (saws), and on those who follow his
(saws) guidance till the Day of Judgement.
FROM:- ABU HAFS
TO :- MY
DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS
ASSALAMU ALAIKUM WA RAHMATULLAHI WA BARAKATAHU
The last letter was about the Unlawful Waseelah. Now we have
to know about the Lawful Waseelah, in the light of Qur’an and Hadeeth and the
way of Sahaba (companions of the Prophet (saws)).
LAWFUL WASEELAH:
The types of
Waseelah which are Lawful are 3. The 3 types are:-
1. To ask ALLAH by
HIS Names and Attributes:
While making dua we can ask ALLAH by using HIS names like Rahman,
Kareem, Ghafoor, Razzaq, Raheem and other names.
Once a Sahabi (companion of the Prophet (saws)) prayed to
ALLAH: ‘O ALLAH! I request you by means that I testify that indeed you are
ALLAH. There is no true deity but YOU. YOU are Alone, Independent, You begot
none, nor were You were begotten. None is equal to You.’
The Prophet (saws) heard it and said: ‘I swear to ALLAH in
whose Hands is my life, he soght to approach ALLAH by HIS Supreme name. The one
who seeks to approach ALLAH in this manner, ALLAH will respond to his prayer
and will certainly give him whatever he asks for.’(at-Tirmidhi)
The Prophet(saws) before his supplications used to remember
ALLAH by HIS Beautiful Names and Exalted Attributes. He(saws) used to say: ‘I
ask YOU by the means of all YOUR Names.’ (at-Tirmidhi)
Also He(saws) used to say: ‘O the Ever Living, the One who
sustains and protects all that exists. I implore your help by the way of your
mercy.’ (at-Tirmidhi)
The Qur’an also gives us the proof of asking ALLAH taking
HIS names by showing us the prayers of other Prophets and other prayers. The
prayers in which ALLAH’s names and attributes are taken as means are given
below:
“My LORD! Bestow on
them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was young.” (surah-17, verse-24)
Zakariyya cried to his LORD:
“My LORD! Leave me not
single(childless), though YOU are the Best of inheritors.” (surah-21,
verse-89)
2. To ask ALLAH by
mentioning our good deeds which we had done for ALLAH
Alone:
We can also make our good deeds the means to approach ALLAH
in our prayers.
“Once three men took refuge in a cave. The mouth of the cave
got blocked by a rolling rock so that there was no way out. They recalled their
good deeds in their prayers. One of them recalled that he had a kind attitude
towards his parents; the other was generous to the labourers; and the third one
kept himself away from adultery although he had all the means to commit it. So
they prayed to ALLAH that they performed those deeds in order to seek the
pleasure of ALLAH and pleaded ALLAH to set them free. So ALLAH set them free.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
3. Asking a believing
Pious person (who is alive) to make Dua for us:
While the Prophet (saws) was alive all the companions asked
him to make dua.
After the Prophet’s(saws) death, whenever drought threatened
the people, ‘Umar bin al-Khattab(raa) used to ask Al-Abbas(raa)
(Prophet’s[saws]) to invoke ALLAH for rain. He used to say, ‘O ALLAH! We used
to ask our Prophet (saws) to invoke ALLAH for rain and You would bless us with
rain, and now we ask his uncle to invoke You for rain. O ALLAH! Bless us with
rain.’ And so it would rain. (Bukhari)
Umar(raa) narrates that he asked the permission of the
Prophet(saws) to perform Umrah and he(saws) gave permission and said,
‘O brother do not forget me in your prayers.’ (Abu Dawood)
By this way we can ask other good people to make dua, but
they must be alive.
Let us know what ALLAH says about intercession in the Holy
Qur’an:
“….who is he that can
intercede with HIM(ALLAH) except with HIS(ALLAH) permission.” (aayat al-kursi, surah-2, verse-255)
“….and they cannot
intercede except for him with whom HE (ALLAH) is pleased. And they stand in awe
for fear of HIM(ALLAH).” (surah-21, verse-28)
“And there are many
angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after ALLAH
has given leave for whom HE(ALLAH) has given leave for whom HE(ALLAH) wills and
pleases.” (surah-53, verse-26)
“Say: To ALLAH belongs
all intercession….” (surah-39, verse-44)
No one shall deserve the intercession except by ALLAH’s Permission. And
HE, the All-Mighty, will permit for intercession to persons who only believe in
the Oneness of ALLAH.
ALLAH says:
“So no intercession of
intercessors will be of any use to them.” (surah-74,
verse-48)
Thus, it is clear that even in the Hereafter only ALLAH will
permit to intercede. And we must know that it was allowed to ask Prophet(saws)
to make dua till the time he(saws) was alive, but after his(saws) death we
cannot ask Prophet(saws) or take his(saws) Waseelah.
This is clear after we read the hadeeth, that Umar (raa)
didn’t turn to the grave of Prophet(saws) for rain, instead asked Abbas(raa)
who was alive, to make dua. And many Sahaba(companions of Prophet(saws)) were
present at that time and if it was allowed to take the Waseelah of Prophet(saws)
then atleast one sahabi(companion) would have asked Umar(raa) to do so. But no
one did it, because they knew that it was not allowed to take the Waseelah of
Prophet (saws) after his(saws) death.
Apart from the types of Waseelah given any other type of
Waseelah is Haraam.
O my Brothers and Sisters! Do we know more than the Sahaba,
who were the direct students of the Messenger of ALLAH(saws)?
Let us know what our Prophet Muhammad (saws) has said
regarding this.
Abu Huraira (raa) reports that when the following verse was
revealed to the Messenger of ALLAH(saws) : “O Muhammad(saws) Warn your
relatives about (the Day of Judgement); The Messenger of ALLAH(saws) stoop up
and declared: O People of Quraish! Or something to that effect! Save
yourselves! (On the Day of Judgement); Before ALLAH I shall not be able to come
to your rescue. O sons of Abd Manaf! (On the Day of Judgement) before ALLAH I
shall not be able to help you. O Abbas(raa) son of Abdul Muttalib! I shall not
be of any help to you before ALLAH. O Safia! (Aunt of the Messenger of
ALLAH(saws)), before ALLAH, I shall not be of any help to you. O Fatima(raa)!
(Daughter of the Messenger of ALLAH(saws) ask for anything in the world from
what I possess, (but on the Day of Judgement) I shall not be of any help to you
before ALLAH.(Saheeh al-Bukhari)
Now you can look it yourself that the Prophet (saws) has
clearly said that he(saws) could not even help his relatives, uncle, aunt and
even daughter. He(saws) will intercede with the permission of ALLAH. Moreover
it is to be noted that after the death of Prophet(saws) we cannot hope for his
help. But his intercession is their for those believing men who were away from
Shirk and that too it will be with the permission of ALLAH.
O My Brothers and Sisters! I ask you all to be free from any
sort of misgivings about Islam which our forefathers might have been a victim
of. Alhamdulillah we are very lucky to get the correct teachings of ISLAM, and
I pray to my Rabb to save all of us from misguidance. O ALLAH make us true
muslims and give us true understanding of
ISLAM the way the Sahaba did and practiced, aameen.
